Switching invoice finance providers requires a coordinated settlement and handover. A new headline rate is only useful if the replacement facility releases enough cash, the old obligations are settled and customer payments are handled correctly throughout the transition.

Understand the existing exit terms
Read the initial term, renewal provisions, notice requirements, minimum charges and early termination costs. Obtain a written settlement calculation and ask how it changes up to the expected completion date. A balance displayed in a portal may not include every exit cost or outstanding obligation.
Compare the replacement on your live ledger
Give the incoming provider the same current debtor information used for the existing facility. Ask what will be excluded, how reserves are calculated and what the opening advance will actually be. A higher percentage can still produce less cash if eligibility rules differ.
Calculate day-one cash
Start with the incoming funding available. Deduct the outgoing settlement, setup costs and any other completion payments. The remainder is the additional cash available to the business. Do this calculation before committing to an exit that could leave a funding shortfall.
Coordinate security and payment arrangements
The funders may need to agree releases, transfers and the handling of receipts. Ask who manages the process, what documents are required and whether customer notices or bank instructions change. Do not assume that every invoice receipt immediately moves to the new arrangement.
Plan the handover
- Agree the completion date and a fallback if it slips.
- Reconcile the old ledger and record in-transit receipts.
- Confirm the opening ledger and borrowing balance with the new provider.
- Test reporting access and assign named owners for exceptions.
- Keep customers informed where payment instructions change.
Standards and complaints
UK Finance publishes information about switching between invoice-finance members through its Standards Framework. Check whether both providers are covered and consult the applicable process. Industry membership is a useful point to verify, rather than a substitute for reviewing the contract.
A sensible reason to switch
Cost is one reason; usable funding, service quality, sector fit and reliability can be others. Compare the annual saving with one-off transition costs and the time required from your accounts team. If the current problem is inaccurate bookkeeping or disputed invoices, changing provider may not solve the underlying issue.
